VERO INSURANCE ON THE GROUND IN NELSON TO SUPPORT CUSTOMERS

Vero Insurance has people on the ground at a drop-in centre in Nelson to help customers access information and support in the clean-up following the landslips and flooding affecting the area.  

On Friday, the insurer lined up resources and loss adjusters, builders and carpet dryers to ensure the right resources were in the right areas to ensure damage is assessed, claims processed and repairs begun as soon as possible. 

EGM of Consumer, Jane Brewer says the insurer had received more than 415 claims through its intermediated and partner channels, with more than 178 of these being underwritten by Vero. The total claims relate mostly to consumer land and property from top of the North and across the South Island, with many of the more significant being in Wellington, Nelson, Marlborough and Milford Sounds area due to landslips and flooding. This month the insurer has received more than 65 EQC claims from across the country and claims are steadily coming in. 

In Nelson, Vero says there has been some re-flooding of basements in areas that had been previously flooded mostly in riverside properties. Also in Wellington, customers that have previously experienced landslips on their property, have been affected for a 2nd and sometimes 3rd time.  

“With a weather watch predicting more rain tonight, we’re continuing to risk map to identify the areas most at risk, to understand the impact on our customers and to ensure those that are displaced or more vulnerable are supported.  

“We’ve had a presence in Nelson since Friday, so we can meet with our customers and arrange property assessments as soon as possible. Affected customers are encouraged to make contact with our Vero people on the ground or contact their insurance broker as soon as possible, an assessor will be arranged, we can carry out any urgent work, and begin progressing claims.”
